The Story Behind Healing Hands
After experiencing profound personal loss, sculptor and filmmaker Laurie Blakely turned to her art to process her grief. She created a film around a question we all struggle with:
“How can we find peace despite hardship or loss?"
She asked 4 healers to collaborate on the project. They contributed their deep, personal wisdom gained over a collective 100 years of practice. In the film, the healers reveal their own struggles and share insights on acceptance, humor, gratitude and joy.
For Laurie, it is a spiritual and creative quest. We see her create colorful ceramic sculptures around the healers’ cast hands as she reflects on their stories and guidance.
The film provides a supportive space for us to contemplate how to nurture inner resilience and calm.
The 33-minute film is a therapeutic experience featuring lush nature footage and a sound healer’s gentle music as the soundtrack. Healing Hands has won numerous awards including best short documentary and best soundtrack.

From the Filmmaker:
I developed the retreat kit in response to requests from viewers who were deeply touched by the film. I wanted to create a retreat that felt intimate and authentic.
The Healers in the film are local, candid, and compassionate—their caring messages anchor the retreat.
The nature scenes in the film and film meditation are filmed within a half mile of my home and have a quiet beauty.
While I created the retreat agenda around my favorite poems, blessings, rituals and movement routines, each person will have a profoundly individual experience. It is designed to facilitate a rejuvenating and deeply personal journey.
So, the retreat is not a generalized recipe for “self-care”, but a deep exploration of how to navigate the difficulties in our lives and thrive.
